Lowamahapaya

Lowamahapaya, also known as the Brazen Palace, is a magnificent structure in the ancient city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. This historic palace, built in the 2nd century BC, is one of the most impressive architectural wonders of Sri Lanka.
King Dutugemunu commissioned the palace as one of the most prominent figures in Sri Lankan history. The king is remembered for ending the 30-year-long conflict between two warring factions, the Sinhalese and Tamil people. In addition, the palace’s construction was part of the king’s efforts to establish Anuradhapura as a thriving and prosperous city.
He built the Lowamahapaya with a unique architectural style that was rare then. The palace has constructed using bronze, which is why it is called the Brazen Palace. He adorned the palace with elaborate carvings and designs, with 1600 pillars. The palace has constructed on an elevated platform, with 1,600 rooms spread across seven floors.

Unfortunately, the palace has destroyed in a fire in the 9th century AD, and only the stone pillars remain today. However, these pillars still stand as a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the ancient Sri Lankan architects and engineers.
